Friends of Rahway River Parkway presents

Union County’s Olmsted Park Legacy

April 26, 2022, marks the 200th birthday anniversary of Frederick Law Olmsted, author, journalist, public official, city planner, and father of American landscape architecture. As a tribute to Olmsted and his contributions to our parks, we invite you to join us for an informative and fascinating talk on Union County’s Olmsted legacy. The talk will be on Tuesday, April 26th, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Ave, Cranford. Learn about the significance of preserving Rahway River Parkway and its surrounding parklands impacting corresponding communities and why preservation is essential for our community and future generations.

Frederick L. Olmsted (1822-1903), considered an urban park visionary and the father of landscape architecture, created inner-city landscapes such as Central Park and Prospect Park as a much-needed respite for city dwellers. His designs brought an oasis of peace and tranquility and the beauty of nature into the midst of urban living. Olmsted's vision can be found in parks and greenways throughout America, including Union County. The Olmsted firm was hired early on by the Union County Park Commission to design the park system, including the Rahway River Parkway and other parklands.

Celebrate the parks and Olmsted’s birthday with some refreshments and birthday cake, yes we said cake. Love your parks and spend an evening learning more about them. We look forward to seeing you.
